Turmeric prices concluded with a slight decline of 0.07% at Rs 20,830, influenced by profit-taking as the resurgence of monsoon conditions in Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka alleviated worries regarding crop stress. Enhanced reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have facilitated greater water availability, while precipitation has aided re-sowing efforts in North Karnataka and bolstered crop conditions.

Turmeric acreage is projected to rise by 16.05% year-on-year starting in 2025, sustaining levels above the five-year average of 1.88 lakh hectares, which may enhance production prospects. However, structural supply remains relatively tight, with carry-forward stocks estimated at approximately 15 lakh bags compared to over 20 lakh bags in the previous season. The regulations set forth by the European Union regarding Maximum Residue Limits are contributing to increased premiums for turmeric that adheres to Integrated Pest Management standards, while simultaneously imposing discounts on commercial lots that do not comply.

India’s turmeric exports experienced a slight decrease of 1% year-on-year, totalling 18,960 tonnes in May 2026. Meanwhile, exports for the April-May period remained relatively stable at 33,999 tonnes. Demand from China, Oman, Yemen, and Italy exhibited notable strength, with exports to China in April-May experiencing a remarkable surge of 4,631% year-on-year, reaching 2,021 tonnes. In Nizamabad, spot prices decreased by 1.62% to Rs 20,398.9, indicative of selling pressure prevalent during the peak harvest period.

Technically, the market is experiencing new selling pressure, as open interest has increased by 5.62% to 17,190 contracts, accompanied by a price decline of Rs 14. Turmeric is currently experiencing support at Rs 20,404; a decline beneath this threshold may reveal a potential drop to Rs 19,978. On the upside, resistance is positioned at Rs 21,202; a sustained move above this level could initiate a recovery toward Rs 21,574.
