Turmeric concluded at Rs 21,684, reflecting a 1.99% increase, bolstered by a tight supply scenario, diminishing carry-forward inventories, and apprehensions regarding the potential impact of El Nino on the ongoing sowing season. Lower-than-anticipated sowing expansion in several crucial agricultural regions, coupled with insufficient rainfall, has heightened apprehensions regarding total production. Furthermore, persistent dry conditions during the initial stages of crop development may negatively impact yields. Turmeric acreage is projected to rise by 16.05% year-on-year starting in 2025, maintaining levels above the five-year average of 1.88 lakh hectares. This trend may constrain potential gains, provided that weather conditions remain favourable.

Monsoon activity in mid-July showed notable improvement across Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka. Concurrently, elevated reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh enhanced water availability, alleviating immediate concerns regarding potential crop failures. Recent rainfall across major turmeric-growing regions is anticipated to expedite sowing and enhance crop prospects. However, the distribution and consistency of rainfall are critical factors, particularly in light of concerns surrounding El Nino. Carry-forward stocks are projected to be approximately 15 lakh bags, a decrease from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, which maintains a constrained overall supply buffer.

However, heightened farmer selling during the peak harvest period and anticipations of expanded acreage may exert near-term pressure. Regulations concerning Maximum Residue Limits in the EU have resulted in the rejection of lots that do not comply with Integrated Pest Management standards. Concurrently, the increasing demand for IPM-certified turmeric is bolstering the market for premium-quality stocks. Export demand continues to show positive trends, as evidenced by India’s turmeric exports, which have surged 30% year-on-year to reach 17,987 tonnes in June 2026. Additionally, the total exports for the April-June period have risen by 8%, amounting to 51,987 tonnes. Robust growth was observed in China, Oman, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay, reflecting widespread international demand.

Nizamabad spot prices increased by 1.44%, reaching Rs 20,383.7. Overall, tight carry-forward stocks and robust exports bolster prices, whereas enhanced rainfall, increased acreage expectations, and farmer selling may constrain the upside potential. Technically, the market is experiencing new buying activity, as open interest has risen by 0.84% to 35,945 contracts, accompanied by a price increase of Rs 424. Support is positioned at Rs 21,392, with an additional level at Rs 21,098, whereas resistance is identified at Rs 21,898. A sustained move above Rs 21,898 could lead to a test of Rs 22,110.
