Turmeric concluded at Rs 20,534, reflecting a 0.65% increase, bolstered by a tight supply scenario, less-than-anticipated sowing growth, and apprehensions regarding insufficient rainfall and the potential impact of El Nino on the growing crop. Carry-forward stocks have experienced a notable decline in recent years, with industry estimates indicating current stocks at approximately 15 lakh bags, down from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, thereby constraining the overall availability buffer. Prolonged dry conditions in the early stages of crop development may negatively impact yields; however, the resurgence of monsoon activity in Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka has alleviated short-term weather worries.
Reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have shown improvement, which is likely to enhance water availability during the vegetative phase. Meanwhile, re-sowing in North Karnataka has been finalised in response to recent rainfall, leading to an uptick in crop conditions. These developments have alleviated concerns regarding crop failures and fostered a more subdued market sentiment, thereby constraining potential gains as traders evaluate the likelihood that enhanced weather conditions will lead to increased production. Supply pressure has risen as farmers liquidate stocks amid the peak harvest period.
Meanwhile, stricter regulations on Maximum Residue Limits within the European Union have led to the rejection of lots that do not comply with Integrated Pest Management standards, while the increasing demand for turmeric certified under Integrated Pest Management is bolstering the market for compliant-quality stocks. Export demand remains robust, as evidenced by India’s turmeric exports, which increased by 30% year-on-year to 17,987 tonnes in June 2026, up from 13,787 tonnes in June 2025. Exports from April to June rose by 8% to reach 51,987 tonnes, with notable increases in shipments to China, Oman, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay.
In Nizamabad, spot prices concluded at Rs 20,336.4, reflecting an increase of 1.44%. Technically, the market continues to experience fresh buying, as evidenced by a 0.85% increase in open interest to 36,390, alongside a price gain of Rs 132, suggesting renewed participation. Turmeric is maintaining its position above the support level of Rs 20,418, and a continued movement above this threshold may facilitate a challenge to the resistance at Rs 20,678. A decisive breakout above Rs 20,678 may extend gains toward Rs 20,824, while a break below Rs 20,418 could weaken prices toward Rs 20,304.
