Turmeric settled 1.13% lower at Rs 20,302 as enhanced monsoon activity in Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka alleviated worries regarding dry weather and the risk of crop damage. Reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have shown improvement, which ensures enhanced water availability during the vegetative phase. Additionally, rainfall has facilitated the completion of re-sowing in North Karnataka, thereby bolstering crop prospects. However, the downside remains constrained by structurally tight supplies, decreasing carry-forward stocks, and apprehensions regarding the potential impact of El Nino on the newly sown crop. Carry-forward stocks are estimated at approximately 15 lakh bags, a significant decline from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, thereby diminishing the availability buffer.

Lower-than-anticipated growth in planting within major agricultural areas has heightened apprehensions regarding total output for the forthcoming harvest. Prolonged dry conditions in the early stages of crop development may continue to negatively impact yields, thereby sustaining price support even in light of recent improvements in weather conditions. On the demand side, stricter European Union Maximum Residue Limits regulations have led to the rejection of non-IPM compliant lots and discounts for commercial-grade turmeric, while the increasing demand for Integrated Pest Management certified turmeric is bolstering compliant stocks.

Farmers have ramped up their selling activities during the peak harvest period, which is exerting immediate pressure on the market. Meanwhile, stockists are engaging in transactions but are proceeding with caution. India’s turmeric exports experienced a notable increase of 30% year-on-year, reaching 17,987 tonnes in June 2026, up from 13,787 tonnes. Additionally, exports for the April-June period rose by 8%, totalling 51,987 tonnes. China’s cumulative imports experienced a remarkable increase of 2,710%, reaching a total of 2,108 tonnes, whereas shipments from Oman saw a significant rise of 469%, amounting to 2,342 tonnes.

Robust growth was similarly observed in Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay, indicative of widespread export demand. In Nizamabad, spot turmeric concluded at Rs 20,336.40, reflecting an increase of 1.44%. Technically, the market is experiencing long liquidation, as evidenced by a 0.63% decline in open interest to 36,160, accompanied by a price drop of Rs 232. Turmeric has established a support level at Rs 20,010, and a decline beneath this threshold may lead to a test of Rs 19,716. On the upside, resistance is positioned at Rs 20,622, and a sustained move above this threshold could propel prices toward Rs 20,940.
