With daily deliveries in important markets like Unjha and Rajasthan beginning to drastically fall, Jeera settled 1.31% higher at Rs 21,310 despite rapid constriction in the supply of premium-quality bold seeds. While the general availability of physical crops remains stable, the supplies of export-grade high-purity bold seeds are diminishing more rapidly than anticipated. Additionally, blight outbreaks in critical regions of Gujarat have impacted both crop quality and the quantities available for harvest. European and North American buyers have re-entered the market for residue-compliant and high-specification lots, contributing to selective demand support.
Geopolitical instability in the Middle East persists in disrupting logistics and constraining purchasing from conventional markets, as the majority of buyers adopt hand-to-mouth procurement strategies. The upside remained constrained as farmers expedited liquidation in anticipation of the forthcoming season, favourable weather conditions facilitated swifter harvesting and drying, and increasing NCDEX warehouse stocks diminished the urgency for immediate procurement. Industrial spice grinders and domestic stockists are refraining from pursuing aggressive forward coverage. India’s cumin production is projected to be between 90 and 92 lakh bags this year, a significant decline from the previous year’s figure of 1.10 crore bags.
The production in Gujarat is estimated to be around 42 to 45 lakh bags, while Rajasthan’s output is expected to range from 48 to 50 lakh bags. China’s production estimate has decreased to 70,000–80,000 tonnes as a result of unfavourable weather conditions. In contrast, Syria, Turkey, and Afghanistan are projected to yield approximately 9,000–10,000, 10,000–11,000, and 10,000–12,000 tonnes, respectively. Export demand exhibited persistent weakness, as evidenced by India’s June exports, which plummeted 34% year-on-year to 10,713 tonnes. Furthermore, the April-June export figures reflected a decline of 25%, totalling 44,144 tonnes.
However, cumulative shipments to Singapore, Oman, and Argentina experienced a significant increase. In Unjha, spot prices experienced a decrease of 0.16%, settling at Rs 20,918.85. Technically, Jeera is experiencing short covering as open interest has decreased by 6.87% to 6,951 contracts, while prices have increased by Rs 275. Support is positioned at Rs 21,040, with a potential decline below this level testing Rs 20,760. Conversely, resistance is identified at Rs 21,500; a sustained movement above this threshold could propel prices toward Rs 21,680.
