NCDEX Live Updates

Jeera prices concluded at Rs 20,905, reflecting a decline of 0.5% due to heightened selling by farmers and enhanced arrivals, which negatively impacted market sentiment. Farmers persisted in liquidating stocks to generate liquidity for Kharif sowing activities, while conducive weather conditions throughout Northwest India facilitated swifter harvesting and drying, thereby expediting market arrivals. Increasing stock levels in NCDEX-accredited warehouses have diminished the immediacy for spot purchases among traders. Domestic spice processors and large industrial buyers adopted a prudent stance, opting for hand-to-mouth procurement rather than engaging in aggressive bulk purchasing while they anticipated additional price adjustments. Reports of enhancing production prospects in Turkey and Syria have exerted pressure on Indian export premiums by elevating expectations of increased global supplies.

Despite the decline, supportive factors persist in constraining further downside. Supplies of premium-quality bold jeera are constrained, as export-grade, residue-compliant stocks are becoming progressively limited. Daily arrivals at key trading centers such as Unjha and Rajasthan have begun to decrease, indicating a reduction in the availability of high-quality produce. Crop quality has been impacted by blight disease in certain regions of Gujarat, leading to a decrease in the volume of export-grade material. Production estimates for the current season indicate a decline compared to last year, attributed to a decrease in sowing area.

Total output is projected to be approximately 90–92 lakh bags, in contrast to nearly 1.10 crore bags from the previous season. Export performance exhibited notable weakness, as May shipments experienced a decline of 26% year-on-year, while exports for the April-May period decreased by 22%. However, robust demand from emerging destinations such as Singapore, Mexico, Yemen, and Poland has partially mitigated the decline in exports to traditional markets. Ongoing geopolitical uncertainty in the Middle East, coupled with cautious purchasing behaviour from China, has also constrained export demand.

Technically, jeera is experiencing long liquidation, as evidenced by an 8.61% decline in open interest, which suggests the unwinding of existing long positions. Immediate support is positioned at Rs 20,830, with subsequent support at Rs 20,740, while resistance is identified at Rs 21,050. A sustained move above this level could enhance buying momentum and drive prices toward the Rs 21,180 level.
