NCDEX Updates

Turmeric concluded the trading session at Rs 21,240, reflecting a decline of 1.14%. This decrease can be attributed to the resurgence of monsoon conditions in Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka, which alleviated worries regarding dry weather and the associated risks of crop losses. Enhanced precipitation has contributed to the replenishment of vital reservoirs in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, thereby securing improved water availability during the vegetative phase. Concurrently, re-sowing activities in North Karnataka have been finalised in response to the favourable rainfall conditions. These developments alleviated immediate supply concerns; however, overall availability continues to be structurally constrained due to diminished production and decreased carry-forward inventories.

Industry estimates suggest that carry-forward stocks are approximately 15 lakh bags, a decrease from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, thereby constraining the supply buffer. Anticipations surrounding a possible El Nino effect, coupled with a less-than-anticipated increase in sowing activities in crucial agricultural areas and premature inadequate rainfall, persist in generating apprehensions regarding the forthcoming harvest, potentially limiting any downward price movements. Simultaneously, farmers selling during the peak harvest period are experiencing heightened pressure, while stockists are exercising caution in light of hand-to-mouth supply conditions.

Tighter European Union Maximum Residue Limits regulations have led to the rejection of non-IPM compliant lots, exerting downward pressure on commercial-grade prices. In contrast, the increasing demand for Integrated Pest Management certified turmeric is bolstering the value of compliant stocks. India’s turmeric exports experienced a year-on-year decline of 10%, totalling 13,489 tonnes in July 2026, down from 15,071 tonnes. However, cumulative exports for the period from April to July saw a 4% increase, rising to 65,476 tonnes from 63,020 tonnes. Exports to Turkey experienced a remarkable increase of 431%, reaching 3,007 tonnes.

Sri Lanka saw a substantial rise of 644%, totalling 156 tonnes, while Nigeria exhibited an extraordinary surge of 983%, amounting to 69 tonnes. In Nizamabad, spot turmeric concluded at Rs 20,525.3, reflecting an increase of 0.51%. Turmeric is currently experiencing fresh selling pressure, as indicated by a 1.64% increase in open interest to 38,385, alongside a price decline of Rs 246. Support is positioned at Rs 21,062, and a decline beneath this threshold may result in a drop to Rs 20,882. On the upside, resistance is observed at Rs 21,462, while a sustained movement above this threshold may propel prices toward Rs 21,682.
