Turmeric concluded the trading session with a 0.60% increase, reaching Rs 21,260, influenced by a tight supply scenario, diminishing carry-forward stocks, and apprehensions regarding the potential impact of El Niño on the ongoing crop sowing. Insufficient rainfall and a slower-than-anticipated increase in sowing across critical agricultural areas have heightened apprehensions regarding future output. Additionally, persistent dry conditions during the initial stages of crop development may further impact yield potential. Turmeric acreage is projected to rise by 16.05% year-on-year starting in 2025, remaining above the five-year average of 1.88 lakh hectares, which offers a degree of supply-side reassurance.
However, the upside remained constrained as monsoon activity resumed across Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka, alleviating previous worries regarding crop stress. Enhanced reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are bolstering water availability, while re-sowing has been finalised in North Karnataka due to rainfall, leading to improved crop conditions. Recent rainfall across major growing regions is anticipated to expedite sowing, while elevated prices may incentivise farmers to increase acreage further. Carry-forward stocks are estimated at approximately 15 lakh bags, a decrease from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, suggesting a contraction in availability.
The regulations regarding Maximum Residue Limits in the EU have resulted in the rejection of lots that do not comply with Integrated Pest Management standards, while the increasing demand for IPM-certified turmeric is bolstering compliant stocks. India’s turmeric exports experienced a notable increase of 30% year-on-year, reaching 17,987 tonnes in June 2026, up from 13,787 tonnes. Additionally, exports for the April-June period rose by 8%, totalling 51,987 tonnes. China’s cumulative imports increased significantly by 2,710% to reach 2,108 tonnes, while Oman’s exports experienced a remarkable rise of 469% to 2,342 tonnes. Additionally, notable growth was observed in Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay.

Technically, the market is experiencing new buying activity, as evidenced by a 1.29% increase in open interest to 35,645 contracts, alongside a price increase of Rs 126. Turmeric is currently experiencing support at Rs 21,130, with a potential decline below this threshold possibly revealing Rs 21,002. On the upside, resistance is positioned at Rs 21,360, and a sustained movement above this threshold could initiate a progression toward Rs 21,462.
