NCDEX Live Updates

Jeera prices declined by 0.33% to close at Rs 20,925, influenced by heightened selling from farmers and better market arrivals, which negatively impacted sentiment. Farmers persisted in liquidating stocks to generate cash for Kharif sowing activities, while favourable weather conditions across North-West India facilitated harvesting, drying, and market arrivals. The consistent increase in NCDEX warehouse stocks has diminished the necessity for immediate spot procurement, leading domestic processors and traders to predominantly adopt hand-to-mouth buying strategies rather than pursuing aggressive inventory accumulation.

Furthermore, geopolitical tensions in the Middle East persisted in disrupting export logistics, while anticipated bulk purchasing from China proved to be inconsistent and price-sensitive, thereby constraining immediate export demand. Fundamentally, the downside remained constrained due to the tightening availability of premium-quality export-grade bold seeds. Daily arrivals in significant trading centres like Unjha and Rajasthan have begun to decrease, while blight disease in certain regions of Gujarat has impacted both the quality of crops and the volume of harvestable output.

Industry estimates indicate that India’s jeera production for the current season may decrease to approximately 90–92 lakh bags, down from 1.10 crore bags in the previous year, attributed to reduced sowing acreage. Gujarat is projected to yield 42–45 lakh bags, whereas Rajasthan is anticipated to provide 48–50 lakh bags. Production estimates in China have been adjusted downward owing to unfavourable weather conditions. Conversely, enhanced crop prospects in Turkey and Syria have exerted some pressure on Indian export premiums. India’s jeera exports experienced a decline of 26% year-on-year, totalling 17,177 tonnes in May. Additionally, cumulative exports for April and May saw a reduction of 22%.

However, exports to Singapore, Mexico, Yemen, and Poland exhibited robust growth, partially counterbalancing the decline in shipments to conventional markets. From a technical perspective, jeera experienced long liquidation as open interest decreased by 7.43% to 7,704 contracts while prices trended downward. Immediate support is positioned at Rs 20,820, succeeded by Rs 20,720. Resistance is observed at Rs 21,050, and a sustained movement above this threshold may lead to further gains toward Rs 21,180.
