NCDEX Live Updates

Jeera prices declined by 0.31%, closing at Rs 20,980, influenced by heightened farmer selling and increased market arrivals that dampened sentiment. Farmers persisted in liquidating stocks to generate cash for Kharif sowing, while favourable weather conditions across North-West India facilitated quicker harvesting and drying, thereby expediting market arrivals. The gradual accumulation of NCDEX warehouse stocks diminished the immediacy for spot procurement, leading large industrial spice processors to exercise caution and opt to postpone bulk purchases until price stabilisation occurs. In the Unjha spot market, prices experienced a decline of 0.35%, settling at Rs 20,755.35, indicative of a lacklustre sentiment in the physical market.

Despite the recent weakness, the downside remained constrained due to the tightening supplies of premium-quality bold seeds. Daily arrivals in major trading centres like Unjha and Rajasthan have begun to decrease, while export-grade residue-compliant and high-purity lots continue to be in short supply. Reports of blight disease in parts of Gujarat have adversely impacted crop quality and diminished the supply of superior-grade produce. Industry estimates indicate that India’s jeera production for the current season is projected to decrease to approximately 90–92 lakh bags, down from 1.10 crore bags last year, attributed to reduced sowing acreage.

Production estimates are projected to be between 42 and 45 lakh bags in Gujarat, while in Rajasthan, the figures range from 48 to 50 lakh bags. Export performance exhibited notable weakness, as May shipments experienced a decline of 26% year-on-year, while exports for the April–May period decreased by 22%. However, stronger demand from emerging markets such as Singapore, Mexico, Yemen, and Poland partially offset weaker shipments to traditional destinations. Expectations of enhanced production in Turkey and Syria, coupled with prudent purchasing by local processors, persist in limiting any significant rebound.

Technically, jeera is experiencing long liquidation, as evidenced by a 1.65% decline in open interest concurrent with decreasing prices. Immediate support is positioned at Rs 20,860, succeeded by Rs 20,730. Resistance is identified at Rs 21,070, and a sustained movement above this threshold may lead to further gains towards Rs 21,150, as near-term sentiment appears to be cautiously range-bound.
