Turmeric concluded the trading session with a 1.6% increase, reaching Rs 21,014. This rise was bolstered by a reduction in supply, a decrease in carryforward stocks, and apprehensions regarding the impact of El Nino on the newly sown crop. Deficient rainfall during early crop development has raised concerns regarding yields, while lower-than-anticipated sowing expansion in certain key regions has contributed to expectations of tighter availability. Carryforward stocks are projected to be approximately 15 lakh bags, a decrease from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, thereby diminishing the supply buffer.

However, the upside remained constrained as monsoon activity enhanced across Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka, while reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh bolstered water availability for crop development. Re-sowing has been finalised in certain areas of North Karnataka due to enhanced rainfall, and recent precipitation across key agricultural zones is anticipated to expedite the sowing process. Turmeric acreage is projected to increase by 16.05% year-on-year starting in 2025, sustaining levels above the five-year average of 1.88 lakh hectares. This trend may enhance production prospects, contingent upon favourable rainfall conditions. Farmers are expected to increase acreage as prices hover around multi-year highs, although selling by farmers during the peak harvest period has introduced sporadic pressure.

The European Union’s restrictions on Maximum Residue Limits have resulted in the rejection of lots that do not comply with Integrated Pest Management standards, while the rising demand for IPM-certified turmeric is bolstering compliant stocks. Export demand continues to exhibit robust growth, as evidenced by India’s turmeric exports, which surged 30% year-on-year to reach 17,987 tonnes in June 2026. Additionally, the cumulative exports for the April-June period saw an 8% increase, totalling 51,987 tonnes. China, Oman, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay exhibited robust growth in shipments, bolstering the overall demand outlook.

In Nizamabad, spot turmeric concluded at Rs 20,102.40, reflecting a decline of 0.04%. Turmeric is currently experiencing fresh buying activity, evidenced by a 6.71% increase in open interest, reaching 32,520 contracts, alongside a price increase of Rs 330. Support is positioned at Rs 20,792, and a breach beneath this threshold may reveal Rs 20,570. On the upside, resistance is observed at Rs 21,296, while a sustained movement above this threshold could propel prices toward Rs 21,578.
