Turmeric concluded with a 0.08% increase at Rs. 26,616, bolstered by a resurgence in demand, diminished selling from stockists, and constrained spot availability as holders limited sales due to apprehensions regarding future supplies. Drought-related crop losses in Karnataka have bolstered bullish sentiment, as an official joint survey estimates turmeric damage across 13,446 hectares, valued at Rs. 188.24 crore, in contrast to total state cultivation of approximately 18,000-20,000 hectares. Concerns regarding insufficient rainfall, weather risks associated with El Niño, and diminished carry-forward stocks have also bolstered prices. Industry estimates indicate that carryover inventories stand at around 15 lakh bags, a decrease from more than 20 lakh bags in the previous season.

However, the upside remained constrained by enhancing monsoon activity across Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka, where precipitation facilitated crop development and permitted re-sowing in impacted regions. Despite these improvements, traders continue to exercise caution regarding the potential for favourable weather to result in sustained production. While certain projections indicate that Indian turmeric production may increase by approximately 15% in 2026, bolstered by an anticipated 20% growth in acreage, the market sentiment remains affected by weather-related risks and diminished inventory buffers.

Export trends exhibited a mixed performance, as turmeric shipments experienced a decline of 10% year-on-year, totalling 13,489 tonnes in July 2026, down from 15,071 tonnes in the same month of the previous year. During the period from April to July, cumulative exports experienced a 4% increase, rising to 65,476 tonnes from the previous 63,020 tonnes. This growth was bolstered by robust demand from Turkey, Sri Lanka, Nigeria, and Switzerland. Stricter European Union maximum residue limits have exerted pressure on non-compliant commercial grades, while the demand for Integrated Pest Management-certified turmeric continues to bolster compliant stocks.

In Nizamabad, a significant spot market, prices increased by 1.96% to Rs. 24,705.20, reflecting a more robust regional market sentiment. Technically, turmeric is experiencing short covering, as open interest has decreased by 1.5% to 17,700 contracts, coinciding with a price rise of Rs. 20. Immediate support is positioned at Rs. 26,240, succeeded by Rs. 25,870, whereas resistance is observed at Rs. 26,890 and Rs. 27,170. A sustained move above resistance could extend gains, whereas a break below support may trigger renewed selling pressure.
