Jeera settled 0.85% lower at Rs. 26,370 due to profit booking following recent gains, as market participants evaluated tightening supplies in the context of subdued export demand and cautious domestic buying. Farmers are strategically withholding stocks, expecting improved prices as the October sowing period approaches. Concurrently, diminishing arrivals at key trading hubs like Unjha and Rajasthan underscore a tightening supply of high-quality bold seeds. However, the aggressive liquidation of stocks by farmers to generate cash for the forthcoming season, coupled with increasing warehouse inventories and a hand-to-mouth procurement strategy by industrial spice grinders, constrained the potential for upward movement.

Production concerns persist, as domestic jeera output is projected to be between 90 and 92 lakh bags this year, a decline from last year’s figure of 1.10 crore bags. Gujarat’s production is anticipated to be in the range of 42 to 45 lakh bags, while Rajasthan’s output is expected to fall between 48 and 50 lakh bags. Adverse weather conditions have led to a reduction in China’s cumin production estimates, now projected at 70,000-80,000 tonnes. In comparison, output from Syria is estimated at 9,000-10,000 tonnes, while Turkey and Afghanistan are expected to produce 10,000-11,000 tonnes and 10,000-12,000 tonnes, respectively. Nevertheless, expectations of enhanced production in Turkey and Syria may exert downward pressure on Indian export premiums.

Export performance remains subdued, as Indian jeera shipments have contracted by 32% year-on-year, totalling 9,318 tonnes in July 2026. Cumulative exports during April-July decreased by 27%, totalling 53,462 tonnes compared to 73,026 tonnes in the same period last year. This decline was primarily driven by significantly reduced shipments to China, which overshadowed robust growth in Singapore, Libya, and certain smaller markets. Geopolitical instability in the Middle East has disrupted traditional trade flows; however, renewed purchasing from European and North American clients for residue-compliant, high-quality lots provides a degree of support.

In Unjha, a significant spot market, prices experienced a decrease of 0.17%, settling at Rs. 26,141.85. Technically, jeera is experiencing long unwinding, as open interest has decreased by 1.55% to 9,132 contracts, coinciding with a price decline of Rs. 225. Immediate support is positioned at Rs. 26,060, succeeded by Rs. 25,750, whereas resistance is identified at Rs. 26,620 and Rs. 26,880. A breach beneath support could prolong the downturn, while a consistent advance above resistance might indicate a resurgence in recovery.
