Turmeric settled up 3.62% at Rs 20,158, bolstered by a tight supply situation, apprehensions regarding the El Nino effect on the newly sown crop, and a lower-than-anticipated increase in sowing across major growing regions, which has heightened concerns about diminished production in the forthcoming harvest. Persistent dry conditions during the early crop development phase could further impact yields, while declining carry-forward stocks from the past three to four years have diminished the availability buffer and bolstered prices.

However, the recovery in monsoon activity across Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka has alleviated immediate crop stress, while enhanced reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are bolstering water availability during the vegetative phase. Re-sowing has been finalised in North Karnataka subsequent to rainfall, leading to an enhancement in crop conditions and alleviating worries regarding significant crop failure. The improved weather outlook has fostered a softer undertone as traders evaluate the potential for rainfall to lead to a sustained recovery in production. The farmer’s decision to sell during the peak harvest window has intensified market pressure. However, carry-forward stocks are estimated at approximately 15 lakh bags, a decrease from over 20 lakh bags last season, which maintains a structurally tight overall availability.

Tighter European Union Maximum Residue Limit regulations have led to the rejection of non-IPM compliant lots and discounts for commercial-grade turmeric, while the rising demand for Integrated Pest Management certified turmeric is bolstering compliant stocks. Export demand continues to exhibit robust growth, as evidenced by India’s turmeric exports, which surged 30% year-on-year to 17,987 tonnes in June 2026, up from 13,787 tonnes. Additionally, exports for the April-June period saw an 8% increase, reaching a total of 51,987 tonnes. Cumulative exports to China, Oman, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay exhibited significant growth, underscoring widespread international demand. Nizamabad spot prices concluded at Rs 19,979.6, reflecting a modest increase of 0.11%.

Technically, the market is experiencing new buying activity, as evidenced by a 0.59% increase in open interest to 36,505, alongside a price increase of Rs 704, suggesting sustained bullish engagement. Turmeric is currently experiencing support at Rs 19,414. A sustained breach beneath this threshold may lead to a further decline toward Rs 18,668. On the upside, resistance is positioned at Rs 20,652, and a decisive move above this level could catalyse additional gains toward Rs 21,144.
