Re-sowing has been finalised in North Karnataka subsequent to rainfall, with crop conditions exhibiting enhancement.
However, the downside remains constrained by persistently tight supplies, a sowing expansion that has not met expectations, and apprehensions regarding the possible effects of El Nino on the recently sown crop. Carry-forward stocks have experienced a notable decline over the past three to four years, with industry estimates indicating that current stocks are approximately 15 lakh bags, a decrease from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season. Prolonged arid conditions in the initial stages of crop development may adversely impact yields and exacerbate supply constraints. The regulations regarding Maximum Residue Limits in the European Union have resulted in the rejection of lots that do not comply with Integrated Pest Management standards, while the increasing demand for turmeric certified under Integrated Pest Management is bolstering compliant stocks.
Farmers have ramped up sales during the peak harvest period, exerting immediate pressure, while stockists exercise caution in light of the improving weather outlook.
