Turmeric prices concluded with an increase of 0.70%, reaching attributed to a tight supply scenario, less-than-anticipated growth in sowing within major cultivation areas, and apprehensions that El Nino and insufficient rainfall may impact the maturing crop. Declining carry-forward stocks accumulated over the past three to four years have further tightened availability, with industry estimates placing current carry-forward stocks at approximately 15 lakh bags, compared to over 20 lakh bags in the previous season. Continued dry conditions during early crop development may lead to reduced yields, thereby offering additional support for prices.
However, the upside remained constrained as monsoon activity enhanced across Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka, while significant reservoirs in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh reached capacity, thereby improving water availability during the vegetative phase. Re-sowing in North Karnataka has been finalised due to enhanced rainfall, with crop conditions indicating a recovery trend. European Union regulations on Maximum Residue Limits continue to serve as a pivotal quality determinant, as the rejection of non-IPM compliant lots exerts pressure on commercial-grade turmeric. Concurrently, the increasing demand for Integrated Pest Management certified turmeric bolsters the market for compliant stocks.
Farmers selling during the peak harvest window have heightened near-term supply pressure, while stockists maintain a cautious approach to buying in light of structurally tighter availability. Export demand remains robust, as evidenced by India’s turmeric exports, which increased by 30% year-on-year to 17,987 tonnes in June 2026, up from 13,787 tonnes in the same month the previous year. During April-June, exports experienced an increase of 8% to reach 51,987 tonnes. Notably, shipments to China saw a remarkable surge of 2,710%, totalling 2,108 tonnes, while exports to Oman rose significantly by 469% to 2,342 tonnes. Robust growth was similarly observed in Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay, underscoring widespread international demand.
In Nizamabad, spot turmeric experienced an increase of 0.61%, reaching Rs 20,101.75. Technically, the market is experiencing short covering, as open interest has decreased by 0.23% to 36,660 contracts, while prices have increased by Rs 144, suggesting a recovery following recent weakness. Turmeric exhibits support at Rs 20,516; a breach beneath this level may lead to a test of Rs 20,290. On the upside, resistance is positioned at Rs 21,004, and a sustained move above this threshold may propel prices toward Rs 21,266.
