Turmeric concluded the session at Rs 21,740, reflecting a decline of 1.35% as traders engaged in profit-taking following recent increases. Concurrently, enhanced monsoon conditions in Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka alleviated worries regarding crop stress. Enhanced reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have secured improved water availability during the vegetative phase, alleviating concerns regarding immediate crop failures. Re-sowing has been finalised in North Karnataka subsequent to rainfall, resulting in enhanced crop conditions.

However, the downside appears constrained by persistently tight supplies, diminishing carry-forward stocks, and apprehensions regarding the effects of El Nino on the recently planted crop. Turmeric acreage is projected to increase by 16.05% year-on-year starting in 2025, remaining above the five-year average of 1.88 lakh hectares. However, the slower-than-anticipated growth in certain key regions has sparked concerns regarding total production levels. Carry-forward stocks are projected at approximately 15 lakh bags, a decline from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, thereby diminishing the supply buffer. The actions of farmers selling during the peak harvest window have led to an increase in near-term availability. Meanwhile, traders are closely observing whether the recent improvements in rainfall will result in sustained production gains.

The regulations set forth by the European Union regarding Maximum Residue Limits have led to the rejection of lots that do not comply with Integrated Pest Management standards. This has resulted in discounts for commercial-grade turmeric, whereas the increasing demand for turmeric certified under Integrated Pest Management is bolstering the value of compliant stocks. Export demand exhibited resilience, as India’s turmeric exports increased by 30% year-on-year, reaching 17,987 tonnes in June 2026, up from 13,787 tonnes in the same month the previous year.

Exports from April to June rose by 8% to 51,987 tonnes, bolstered by robust demand from China, Oman, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay. In Nizamabad, spot turmeric concluded at Rs 20,465.9, reflecting a 0.14% increase. Technically, the market is experiencing new selling pressure, as open interest has risen by 0.41% to 36,775, accompanied by a price decline of Rs 298. Turmeric exhibits support at Rs 21,508, with an additional level at Rs 21,278. Conversely, resistance is identified at Rs 22,048; a persistent advance beyond this threshold may propel prices toward Rs 22,358.
