Turmeric concluded with a gain of 1.63%, reaching Rs.22,038, bolstered by a tight supply scenario, diminishing carry-forward inventories, and apprehensions that arid conditions and a possible El Nino may impact the recently planted crop. Lower-than-expected expansion in key growing regions initially heightened concerns regarding reduced production, while carry-forward stocks have decreased to approximately 15 lakh bags from over 20 lakh bags last season, constraining the overall availability buffer. However, the upside remained constrained as monsoon activity revived across Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka, enhancing soil moisture and alleviating concerns regarding crop failure.
Reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have shown an improvement in water availability, while re-sowing activities in North Karnataka have been completed in the wake of recent rainfall. Turmeric acreage is projected to rise by 16.05% year-on-year starting in 2025, maintaining levels above the five-year average of 1.88 lakh hectares, as favourable pricing incentivises farmers to broaden their sowing activities. Recent rainfall across major growing regions is anticipated to expedite sowing; however, the rate of progress will be contingent upon the distribution of rainfall and the possible effects of El Nino. Selling by farmers during the peak harvest period has exerted some pressure, while stockists maintain a cautious stance.
Tighter European Union Maximum Residue Limit regulations have resulted in the rejection of non-IPM compliant lots, thereby discounting commercial-grade turmeric. However, the increasing demand for IPM-certified turmeric is bolstering compliant stocks. Export demand continues to exhibit robustness, as evidenced by India’s turmeric exports, which surged 30% year-over-year to 17,987 tonnes in June 2026. Additionally, exports for the April to June period experienced an 8% increase, reaching a total of 51,987 tonnes. China, Oman, Nigeria, Sri Lanka, and Uruguay exhibited robust increases in their shipment volumes. Nizamabad spot prices increased by 0.26%, reaching Rs.20,437.3.
Technically, turmeric is experiencing fresh buying activity, as open interest has risen by 1.89% to 36,625, accompanied by a price increase of Rs.354. Support is positioned at Rs.21,718, and a breach beneath this level may lead to a test of Rs.21,398. Resistance is identified at Rs.22,384, with a sustained movement above this level potentially driving prices toward Rs.22,730. Overall, the near-term bias appears favourable, although enhancing monsoon conditions could constrain additional advancements.
