Turmeric experienced a decline of 1.81%, closing at Rs 20,844. This downturn was influenced by profit booking, as the resurgence of monsoon activity in Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka alleviated worries regarding dry weather and potential crop failures. Enhanced reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have secured greater water availability throughout the vegetative phase, bolstering anticipations of improved crop conditions. In Nizamabad, spot prices experienced a decrease of 1.62%, settling at Rs 20,398.9. The outlook remains mixed as turmeric acreage is projected to increase by 16.05% year-on-year from 2025, sustaining levels above the five-year average of 1.88 lakh hectares.

Favourable precipitation across key agricultural areas has hastened the planting process, and producers are expected to increase their cultivated land as market prices persist at elevated levels not seen in several years. However, carry-forward stocks have decreased to approximately 15 lakh bags from over 20 lakh bags last season, resulting in a structurally tighter overall availability. Continued rainfall will be essential, especially in light of El Nino apprehensions. Export demand exhibited a generally stable trend. India’s turmeric exports experienced a slight decline of 1% year-on-year, totalling 18,960 tonnes in May 2026.

In the period of April-May, exports amounted to 33,999 tonnes, compared to 34,162 tonnes during the same timeframe the previous year. Shipments to China, Oman, Yemen, and Italy exhibited robust growth, bolstering the demand for high-quality turmeric. Meanwhile, the implementation of stricter Maximum Residue Limit regulations by the European Union has led to the rejection of non-IPM compliant lots. This has resulted in widening discounts for commercial-grade turmeric, while simultaneously bolstering the market for certified supplies.

Technically, the market is experiencing new selling pressure, as open interest has increased by 35.91% to 16,275, while prices have decreased by Rs 384. Turmeric exhibits a support level at Rs 20,068; a breach of this threshold may lead to a test of Rs 19,290. Resistance is positioned at Rs 21,512, and a sustained movement above this threshold could propel prices toward Rs 22,178.
