Turmeric experienced a decline of 1.37%, closing at Rs 20,888. This decrease can be attributed to enhanced monsoon rainfall in critical growing areas, which alleviated worries regarding the forthcoming crop and prompted profit-taking at elevated price points. Recent rainfall over the past five to six days is anticipated to expedite sowing activities, while appealing prices close to multi-year highs are expected to motivate farmers to increase acreage during the current Kharif season. Market participants continue to exercise caution, as the rate of sowing is contingent upon the forthcoming distribution of rainfall, especially in light of apprehensions regarding the potential effects of El Niño. Despite the correction, the downside remained constrained owing to reduced arrivals, limited spot availability, and consistent export demand.

Fundamentally, arrivals experienced a significant decline, dropping to approximately 8,500 bags from 18,000 bags in the prior session. This reduction was primarily attributed to the closure of key markets in Maharashtra, which in turn bolstered spot prices. Despite farmers persisting in the liquidation of stocks throughout the peak marketing season, the overall supplies continue to exhibit structural tightness due to diminished production levels and a decrease in carry-forward inventories. Industry estimates indicate that carry-forward stocks are approximately 15 lakh bags, a notable decrease from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season.

Reports of Rhizome Rot and quality deterioration in certain arrivals have also impacted market sentiment, as buyers continue to exercise selectivity and caution. Export demand exhibited stability, as India’s turmeric exports experienced a slight decline of 1% year-on-year, totalling 18,960 tonnes in May 2026. Exports demonstrated robust growth to various destinations, notably China (+1,580%), Oman (+749%), Yemen (+1,125%), and Italy (+639%), contributing to the overall stability of cumulative April–May FY2026-27 exports. Meanwhile, the price in the Nizamabad spot market experienced an increase of 0.47%, reaching Rs 20,345.9.

Turmeric is currently experiencing new selling pressure, as evidenced by a 0.68% increase in open interest to 29,645 lots, which suggests the establishment of new short positions. Immediate support is positioned at Rs 20,460, with a subsequent level at Rs 20,030, while resistance is identified at Rs 21,480. A sustained move above this level could extend gains towards Rs 22,070, whereas failure to hold support may invite further selling pressure.
