Turmeric prices experienced a notable increase of 3.82%, concluding at Rs 21,750. This rise can be attributed to significantly reduced market arrivals, constrained spot supplies, and consistent export demand. Arrivals decreased to approximately 8,500 bags from 18,000 bags in the prior session, primarily attributed to the closure of significant markets in Maharashtra, coupled with heightened buying interest in the context of constrained physical availability. Weather conditions continue to be a critical determinant for the forthcoming agricultural yield. Recent substantial rainfall in key turmeric-producing areas over the past week is anticipated to expedite Kharif sowing, while sustained high prices, approaching multi-year peaks, are expected to promote an increase in acreage.

However, the ultimate production forecast will hinge on the allocation of monsoon precipitation in the forthcoming weeks, especially in light of apprehensions surrounding the potential impact of El NiƱo. Improved rainfall has marginally alleviated apprehensions regarding the forthcoming crop; however, the overarching market supplies continue to be structurally constrained due to diminished production and lowered carry-forward stocks. Fundamental conditions persist in delivering a blend of signals. Carry-forward inventories are estimated at approximately 15 lakh bags, a notable decrease from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, resulting in a constrained overall availability.

Simultaneously, heightened selling by farmers during the peak marketing season, coupled with quality issues associated with Rhizome Rot, has exerted sporadic pressure on prices. Export performance exhibited stability, as India’s turmeric exports rose by 0.6% year-on-year, reaching 15,039 tonnes in April 2026. Robust demand from China, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Brazil, and Japan effectively counterbalanced the decline in shipments to the UAE and the United States, while the appetite for IPM-certified turmeric from Europe continued to provide support.

From a technical perspective, turmeric experienced short covering, as open interest remained stable while prices surged significantly. Immediate support is positioned at Rs 21,018, succeeded by Rs 20,288. Resistance is observed at Rs 22,164, and a sustained breakout above this threshold may lead to further gains towards Rs 22,580, thereby preserving a favourable near-term technical perspective.
