Turmeric prices experienced a decline of 1.64%, settling at Rs 17,562, influenced by anticipations of increased acreage due to favorable rainfall conditions during the ongoing sowing season. For the 2025–26 season, turmeric acreage is projected to reach 3.02 lakh hectares, reflecting an increase of approximately 4% compared to the previous year, while fresh production is anticipated to be 11.41 lakh tonnes. At the national level, the production of dried turmeric is projected to reach 90 lakh bags, compared to 82.5 lakh bags in the previous season. Nonetheless, supply growth is anticipated to stay moderate, as irregular weather patterns, unseasonal precipitation, and localized disease pressures have counterbalanced the benefits derived from an increased planted area.
In major agricultural states like Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka, yields have been adversely affected by excessive rainfall, leading to reported losses of approximately 15–20% in certain areas. Despite the current price weakness observed in the short term, the potential for further declines seems constrained, attributable to below-average arrivals and diminished inventories maintained by both producers and distributors. Domestic and international demand continues to exhibit resilience, bolstered by robust export performance.
During the period from April to November 2025, turmeric exports experienced an increase of nearly 5% compared to the previous year, with November shipments demonstrating robust growth both on a monthly and annual basis. Import volumes, in contrast, experienced a significant decline, thereby reinforcing domestic balances. Spot prices in Nizamabad concluded with a slight increase, indicating a persistent strength in the market.
From a technical perspective, the market is experiencing new selling pressure, evidenced by a 3.29% increase in open interest alongside a decline in prices of Rs 292. Immediate support is identified at Rs 17,080; a breach beneath this level may challenge Rs 16,600. Resistance is established at Rs 18,100, and a breach of this threshold could propel prices toward Rs 18,640.
