Jeera futures increased by 0.39% to Rs 21,795, bolstered by weather-related delays and sluggish sowing progress in significant producing areas. As of 1 December 2025, cumin sowing in Gujarat has experienced a decline of 7.74%, totaling 1.94 lakh hectares, down from 2.11 lakh hectares in the previous year, attributed to uneven rainfall that has rendered fields unprepared. Arrivals at the Unjha market continue to be notably low, with good-quality jeera commanding elevated prices. Although there has been a slight improvement in demand from Gulf countries and China, it continues to be highly price-sensitive. Overall export interest remains subdued, attributed to ample global stocks and logistical challenges between India and the Middle East.
Domestic supply remains adequate, with farmers retaining approximately 20 lakh bags. However, only an estimated 3–4 lakh bags are anticipated to be traded this season, resulting in a substantial carryover of 16 lakh bags. Current season production is projected at 90–92 lakh bags, a decrease from last year’s 1.10 crore bags. Gujarat is expected to yield 42–45 lakh bags, while Rajasthan is anticipated to produce 48–50 lakh bags. On a global scale, the production outlook in China, Syria, Turkey, and Afghanistan continues to be constrained by weather-related disruptions.
Export performance has exhibited weakness, as jeera exports from April to September 2025 declined by 14.51% compared to the previous year. However, exports in September showed a year-on-year increase of 2.20% and a month-on-month rise of 22.93%. Support is also emerging following the reduction of the GST rate on jeera to 5%, which is bolstering FMCG demand. In the Unjha spot market, prices concluded at Rs 21,417.5, reflecting an increase of 0.49%.
From a technical perspective, the market is experiencing short covering, evidenced by a 5.04% decline in open interest to 3,051. Jeera exhibits support at Rs 21,560, with potential decline extending to Rs 21,310, while resistance is positioned at Rs 22,000, and a breakout could propel prices towards Rs 22,190.
