
Turmeric yesterday settled up by 0.51% at Rs 13,906, as prices received support from reports indicating crop damage due to recent heavy rainfall in key growing regions. In Nanded, approximately 15% of the standing turmeric crop area has been impacted, raising immediate supply concerns. The inventory of stocks among farmers in Warangal is approaching depletion, as there have been no new arrivals over the last two days, which is contributing to a strengthening of market sentiment.
Nonetheless, the potential for growth appeared limited as a result of an anticipated rise in acreage, bolstered by beneficial rainfall throughout the planting period. The IMD’s projection of normal to below-normal rainfall in certain regions of South India has heightened apprehensions regarding yield outcomes. On the production front, favorable dry weather is enabling timely planting, resulting in a nearly 10% increase in turmeric acreage for the 2024–25 season, reaching 3.30 lakh hectares compared to the previous year. The Duggirala market is experiencing robust buying interest, which is supporting price levels, as new crop arrivals command a premium owing to their superior quality.
Approximately 50–55% of the total new crop has been traded thus far, with daily trading volumes ranging from 1,000 to 1,200 bags. During the period from April to July 2025, turmeric exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 2.29%, reaching a total of 63,020 tonnes. This growth was bolstered by robust demand from international markets, with exports in July rising by 9.31% compared to the previous month.
From a technical perspective, the market is experiencing new buying activity, as evidenced by a 6.86% increase in open interest to 11,835 lots, alongside a price increase of Rs 70. Turmeric currently exhibits support at Rs 13,686, with potential for additional decline to Rs 13,464. Resistance is identified at Rs 14,094; a breach above this level could propel prices toward Rs 14,280. Turmeric Experiences Increases As Precipitation Harms Existing Crops in Key Agricultural Areas
