Turmeric prices concluded with a slight increase of 0.03% at Rs 20,268, bolstered by a hand-to-mouth supply scenario, diminished carry-forward stocks, and apprehensions regarding inadequate rainfall impacting the newly sown crop in critical cultivation areas. Lower-than-anticipated growth in sowing has heightened expectations of constrained supplies for the forthcoming harvest, while persistent dry conditions during the initial stages of crop development may negatively impact yields. However, the upside remained constrained as monsoon activity showed improvement across Maharashtra, Telangana, and North Karnataka, alleviating worries regarding crop stress.

Reservoir levels in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh have shown improvement, bolstering water availability during the vegetative phase and alleviating concerns regarding potential crop failures. Re-sowing in North Karnataka has been finalised subsequent to rainfall, leading to an enhancement in crop conditions. Carry-forward stocks are estimated at approximately 15 lakh bags, a decrease from over 20 lakh bags in the previous season, thereby diminishing the overall availability buffer. The regulations regarding Maximum Residue Limits in the European Union have led to the rejection of lots that do not comply with Integrated Pest Management standards, thereby exerting pressure on commercial-grade turmeric.

Conversely, the increasing demand for turmeric certified under Integrated Pest Management from European buyers is bolstering the stocks that meet these compliance requirements. The act of farmers selling during the peak harvest window has introduced additional pressure to the market. India’s turmeric exports experienced a year-on-year decline of 10%, totalling 13,489 tonnes in July 2026, down from 15,071 tonnes in the same month of the previous year. However, cumulative exports for the period from April to July increased by 4%, reaching 65,476 tonnes compared to 63,020 tonnes in the prior year. Exports to Turkey, Sri Lanka, and Nigeria experienced significant increases, with rises of 431%, 644%, and 983%, respectively.

In Nizamabad, a prominent spot market, turmeric prices concluded at Rs 19,961.65, reflecting a decline of 0.96%. Technically, turmeric is experiencing short covering, as evidenced by a 0.41% decline in open interest to 36,160 contracts, while prices increased by Rs 6. This suggests a process of position unwinding in conjunction with slight price appreciation. Support is identified at Rs 19,894, and a breach of this threshold may result in a challenge of Rs 19,522. On the upside, resistance is positioned at Rs 20,504, and a sustained movement above this threshold could propel prices toward Rs 20,742.
