Turmeric prices experienced a modest increase, closing up by 1.02% at Rs 17,242, bolstered by lower-than-average arrivals and consistent demand both domestically and internationally. Market sentiment exhibits resilience as both farmers and stockists have notably diminished their inventories, establishing a robust foundation in anticipation of new crop arrivals. Crop prospects exhibit a mixed outlook, as yields in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka have been adversely impacted by excessive rainfall.

Additionally, unseasonal precipitation during August–September resulted in waterlogging and disease affecting approximately 15% of the area in certain regions of Marathwada, culminating in localized yield losses ranging from 15% to 20%. For the 2025–26 season, turmeric acreage is projected to reach 3.02 lakh hectares, reflecting an approximate 4% increase compared to the previous year, while fresh production is anticipated to be 11.41 lakh tonnes.

The output of dried turmeric is projected to reach 90 lakh bags, compared to 82.5 lakh bags in the previous season; however, reduced carry-forward stocks constrain the overall increase in availability. Maharashtra’s dried output is projected to increase to 54 lakh bags, whereas the combined production from other states may reach approximately 40 lakh bags. Quality concerns continue to be evident in low-lying regions, although the adoption of Integrated Pest Management and the production of export-grade goods are on the rise. During the period from April to October 2025, exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 2.05%, whereas imports saw a significant decline, thereby underscoring the prevailing domestic tightness. Spot prices in Nizamabad concluded at 15,997.4, reflecting a slight increase.

From a technical perspective, the market is experiencing new buying activity, as evidenced by a 1.44% increase in open interest to 14,450, accompanied by a price gain of Rs 174. Support is identified at Rs 16,828, with additional downside potential at Rs 16,414. Resistance is identified at Rs 17,478, and a breakout may propel prices towards Rs 17,714.
