Turmeric prices experienced a decline of 1.87 percent yesterday, settling at Rs 15,860. This downturn is attributed to expectations of increased acreage due to favorable monsoon rains during the ongoing sowing season. Nonetheless, the potential for downside is constrained by below-normal arrivals and persistent demand both domestically and internationally. Market sentiment remains robust as both farmers and stockists have notably diminished their inventories, establishing a solid foundation in anticipation of the forthcoming crop arrivals.

Crop conditions continue to be a critical area of attention. Persistent and heavy rainfall in key agricultural areas including Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Erode has led to waterlogging, the emergence of diseases, and possible damage to rhizomes. Approximately 15–20 percent of crop damage has been observed in critical regions. Arrivals are anticipated to experience delays until February–March, with IPM and EU/US-compliant material expected to be accessible only post-May 2026. Carry-forward stocks persist at historically low levels, constraining overall availability and bolstering prices. International demand continues to exhibit strength, especially from Europe and the USA, whereas Indonesia’s season has concluded with output quality falling below the typical standards.

In terms of supply dynamics, turmeric acreage for the 2024–25 period has increased to 3.30 lakh hectares, reflecting a 10 percent year-on-year growth, with expectations of further expansion in the range of 15–20 percent. During the period from April to September 2025, exports experienced a year-on-year increase of 4.02 percent.

Currently, the market is experiencing renewed selling pressure, as evidenced by a 7.97 percent increase in open interest to 13,005, alongside a price decline of Rs 302. Turmeric exhibits a support level at Rs 15,662; a decline beneath this threshold may challenge the Rs 15,466 mark. Resistance is identified at Rs 16,108, and a breach of this threshold could propel prices towards Rs 16,358.
